About Us

Powderly Meadows is the brainchild of Tracy, daughter of John and Nancy Powderly. She moved to Lakeville over 30 years ago with a passion for animals and a desire to establish a place where animal lovers could bring their pets - a place where they would be as comfortable as they would be in their own home. Their home away from home, in other words.

Tracy's passion for animals started at an early age while raising her own pony, a goat and a fleet of rabbits - just to name a few.

While in college, she volunteered and/or worked at Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, CT; Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, RI; and New England Aquarium in Boston, MA. After graduating from the University of Rhode Island with a BA in Biology, she moved to Miami, FL and spent five years working with dolphins, a killer whale and other marine mammals at the Miami Seaquarium. After returning to the area where she grew up, she spent a period of time working at the Middleboro Animal Clinic with her veterinarian of over 30 years - Doc Johnson.

Eventually, she and husband Steve settled down in Lakeville to launch the family business with great help from her father John, which consists of the doggie day care, horse boarding and horse trail ride enterprises.

When not tending to the animals or welcoming dogs that come to the day care, Tracy and her father can be found around the farm, usually with her two children in tow - Hunter and Mackenzie.
